Sochi Fever

By MOFILM

I don’t know about you guys but we have been pretty gripped by the Winter Olympics happening over in Russia at the moment. Whether it’s to watch the wipeouts on the snowboard cross, the curling (yes the curling) or the seriously awesome and tummy flipping freestyle skiing aerials, everybody has been tuning in. Which means it’s also a crucial period for brands all over the world to get heard and be seen. Cue tearjerkers and some great spoofs!

If the build up to the event itself was somewhat marred by the controversial Russian homosexuality legislation, the creativity in the backlash has been pretty amusing to say the least. Check out this spot from Channel 4 … and this totally genius spoof from the Canadian Institute of Diversity and Inclusion.

Moving away from humour but not totally absent of a dig at the Russian authorities, is another of our favorites: #TheNew Chevy spot. On this note – keep your eyes peeled for the Cannes Chevy brief, as it will be an extension of this new campaign.

Next up is Canadian Paralympic Committee “#WHATSTHERE” advert. Instead of dwelling on how the Paralympics differ from the Olympics, this spot focuses on the similarities between the competing athletes, namely strength, skill and commitment to cause.

Last but not least is another tear-jerker from P&G. They did for the 2012 London Summer Games and came back for the repeat in winter.
