MOFILM & Unilever Present the Academy for African Filmmakers II

By MOFILM

We’re delighted to announce the second edition of the Academy of African Filmmakers. Year One saw young filmmakers from Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa come together to hear from award-winning filmmakers and work on live creative briefs on the great Unilever brands, Aromat, Sunlight, Lux and Project Sunlight.

The work was outstanding, and it’s not just us saying that, “Guess Who is coming to Dinner”, created by David Franciscus won a Bronze Loerie.  #SheWhoDares by Jonathan Sidego went live earlier in 2016 and already almost a million views.

We wanted to make this year even bigger and better, so as well as lots more briefs for you to work on, we decided to open the Academy as wide as possible and put it on the worldwide web! Now everyone can access filmmaker tutorials from awarding winning writers, producers, and directors such as Akin OmotosoBusi Sizane and Lebogang Rasethabi. We’ll be releasing video interviews with and other great African filmmakers over the next month. We’re sure they will inspire you! So make sure you subscribe to the MOFILM YouTube Channel. There will be some great content here on the blog too so keep coming back!  We’re also creating a series guide that we’ll send to everyone who has downloaded a brief.

All you need to do is pick a brand, download its brief and then submit your treatment by the deadline. Each brand will pick one winner to turn their idea into a a film. That winner will receive $5,000 (USD) as a prize, plus a $5,000 production budget and a $2,000 Director’s fee! You can create a treatment for as many brands as you like.
