For the first contest of 2016, MOFILM was delighted to work with Glatt Stove, an innovative start-up from Mexico that has developed a portable cooking solution known as ‘La Estufita’, or Little Stove, to help save lives.
Over three billion people, almost half the world’s population, rely on open fires or leaky stoves to cook their meals and heat their homes. This contributes to 4.3 million people dying prematurely every year of diseases such as pneumonia, lung cancer and heart disease, caused by pollution from the inefficient burning of solid fuels. La Estufita is designed to provide those 3 billion people with a safer way to cook. Made with a steel can, it uses a liquid natural gas, which produces no smoke.
Glatt Stove participated in MOFILM’s Las Vegas competition to help build awareness, asking for films about how Glatt Stove can get you through the toughest of days. The contest received over 50 films, from five continents, as well as the participation of three universities.
The winner of Las Vegas Contest 2016 was Spanish filmmaker Mike Galeck, who also took home the prestigious Golden Moby award for best film of the night, for his epic film “Wherever You Are”.
