It’s exciting for us when the competitions close and we can settle down and look at your submissions. Last night we decided to do it in style with a Chinese takeaway and some very good wine – it’s tough working at MOFILM. We have to say, we had as much fun as if we’d been watching a blockbuster. Probably more actually.

This is what grabbed us straight away:

Some of your films are funny – laugh-out-loud, sitcom-quality funny. We’re still quoting lines

Many top ad agencies would be proud of your ideas

You clearly know the ‘language’ of advertising – in other words you know how to make your ideas work for the brief

Some films were well structured and paced and some, thought the ideas were good, were a little long or started out slow and picked up. We’ve already given feedback to some of you that will help you tighten up your films and we hope to do more of this in the future

Productions values varied, as you might expect, but these ads (and films) weren’t amateurish. You know how to light, shoot and edit.

Of course this is just our first look – your ads and films have to be seen by the brands as well. We’ll be informing the winners, and the rest of you, of our decision in the next few days.

We’ve already told you that we had more entries for the Barcelona Ad Competition and Pepsi Short Film Video Competition than all our other competitions put together. Keep them coming (Walmart American Idol is our next competition, and keep a look out for Tribeca) and thanks for your entries.

We had a feeling our Barcelona Ad and Pepsi Short Film Video Competitions would be popular and we were proved right. You submitted over 635 videos for the Ad Competition and 761 for the Pepsi Short Film Video Competition; that’s more entries than we’ve had for our previous competitions put together. Clearly there’s a lot of talent out there.

We’ve already taken a look at a few of them and we’re very impressed with the quality so far. We’ll be looking at all entries in depth over the next few days and then informing the winners by 7 February. The formal announcement will happen on 15 February in Barcelona. Good luck everyone.
